Mia's Great Ocean Road Ride Challenge

Story

Hey everyone!

I am super excited to tell you about what I am up to on February 8-10th, 2015 with a good friend I met in Uganda, her family and some other Watoto supporters:

I'm taking part in an adventure that I never thought I would do, the 300km Great Ocean Road ride with 25000spins, a non-profit program that matches an adventure with a good cause.

I will be given support in how to train (as a very VERY non-advanced long-distance bike rider) and fundraise and get to experience an adventure that I wouldn't have previously had the opportunity to enjoy.

I will be raising valuable funds that go directly towards the fantastic organisation Watoto!

Specifically, the money will be going towards Watoto Living Hope, which is a program that helps to restore dignity to the lives of vulnerable women in Uganda.

Living Hope aims to help many women who have been abandoned or widowed and focuses on HIV+ single women, returnees from abduction into the rebel army in northern Uganda and teenage mothers.

Living Hope empowers such women by:
  • Providing counselling
  • Equipping them with vocational skills to help them become productive members of their community
  • Providing micro-finance loans to help women set up self-sustaining, income-generating projects.
  • Spiritual and moral discipleship
If you are able to spare a bit of money and donate to this great cause, it would mean a lot to me and even more to the women & children in Uganda who really need your help!  I can't do this without you!

Also it would be great if you could be praying for me (and my other pals who will be doing this cycling journey alongside me) as I embark on this journey to ride (part of) the Great Ocean Road - I'm going to need all the help I can get....

Thank you again!

Mia xxxx

Also, this is what the ride looked like last year - pretty keen!

Watoto Australia

Watoto is a family made up of people from all over the world who are working together to ensure that the forgotten have a place to belong. In a time of civil war, we planted a local church in Kampala, Uganda to speak hope and life to the nation. Since then, we’ve placed thousands of orphans in families, empowered thousands of vulnerable women to reach their communities, rescued babies and former child soldiers, and sent children’s choirs across six continents. As we work alongside the most vulnerable in our society, our aim is to rescue individuals and raise each one as a leader in his or her sphere of life so that, in turn, they will rebuild the nation. Watoto Australia (ABN 83 176 101 461) is proud to be a partner with Global Development Group (ABN 57 102 400 993): an Australian NGO approved by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and responsible for aid and development project J210 according to OAGDS guidelines. If projects are overfunded, funds may be directed towards other approved project activities.
